Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy is a specialised form of Physiotherapy treatment which takes place in a warm swimming pool. The temperature in the warm-water pool is normally between 33 and 36 ºC, a lot warmer than a typical swimming pool.
Hydrotherapy for children is aimed to be a fun experience that enables children to move in way they can only experience in a hydrotherapy pool.
Paediatric conditions suitable for Hydrotherapy:
• Cerebral palsy • Down syndrome • Developmental delay • Muscular dystrophy • Sports injuries • Post-Operative Rehabilitation • Chronic Pain • Arthritis • Joint, Muscle, & Ligament Injury
Hydrotherapy versus land based treatment:
• The warm water helps relax the muscles, reduces muscle tension and relieves pain.
• The buoyancy of the water reduces your body weight; which gives joints support and protection while you exercise.
• Playing in the water can be so much fun! The better participation the better the treatment outcome is.
• Increases Cardiovascular Fitness.

What hydrotherapy may involve
Small floating objects such as small ducks and boats may be used within sessions to catch the attention of the child and encourage reach and grasp. Larger flotation devices may also be used to provide support for the child.
